Brighton & Hove knocked one of the favorites, Manchester United out of the FA Youth Cup after an impressive 3-1 win at Leigh Sports Village on Monday evening. Nigerian right back Ayo Tanimowo put in an impressive shift against the Red Devils, playing as a fullback.
Peter Gwargis’s penalty and a goal each from Ryan Longman and Haydon Roberts secured an unforgettable win over the Red Devils, who scored a consolation late on through Di’shon Bernard.
The young Seagulls did not concede until a minute from time when Bernard tapped home a rebound after Anthony Elanga’s shot was palmed away by the goalkeeper. Brighton established a two-goal lead inside the opening fifteen minutes thanks to goals from Gwargis and Longman before Roberts made it 3-0 nine minutes after the restart.
Tanimowo is eligible to represent England and Nigeria internationally but it is understood that the English Football Association are in the driving seat for his services. So far this season, the 17-year-old has started seven games for Brighton in the U18 Premier League and was on the bench for the U23s in their Premier League 2 clash vs Liverpool last Monday.
