Manchester City teenage defender Eric Garcia is set to feature against Burton as Pep Guardiola rewards the star performers from the last round. There were eight changes for against Rotherham on Sunday but it was still an experienced team put out by the manager.
Garcia, 18 today, played for the EDS at the weekend as John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi started in the FA Cup.
However, the former Barcelona youngster was left out of the Checkatrade Trophy win over Rochdale as he instead prepares for the first team game. Aro Muric, who impressed behind Garcia in the Carabao Cup quarter-final at Leicester, is also expected to play while Phil Foden could start consecutive games for the first time in his City career. Guardiola, though, has insisted he will not take the game or the competition lightly.
“I like to be in the four competitions as far as possible. When Wigan put us out of the FA Cup last season I was sad. But since I arrived we played United (in the League Cup) and played with a lot of young players, the same the second season, the same the third season – that’s what has happened. I take the cups seriously. Against Rotherham, for example, we played with nine players who didn’t play against Liverpool and the nine were a good selection,” he said.
Philippe Sandler, who came off the bench for his debut in the FA Cup, played in central defence for the Under-21s at Rochdale on the instructions of the first team coaching staff. The summer signing has also shown potential in a defensive midfield role.
