Brazilian soccer star, Neymar has split from actress girlfriend Bruna Marquezine.
The 23-year-old model confirmed the PSG star ended their relationship when giving an interview to Vogue Brazil.
But she denied claims the split had anything to do with differences over the upcoming elections in Brazil.
“We are finished,” she said. “It was his decision. I am going to ask that this issue isn’t prolonged because normally I don’t speak about my personal life.
“I have a lot of respect and affection for him and for everything we went through together.
“I just want to clear this point up, because we are living through a critical and dangerous time, a time with a lot of hate and no, the breakup had nothing to do with that (politics).”
While she denied their split had anything to do with the political tension at home, media reports continue to link their split to politics.
The duo had been in a long-distance relationship due to Neymar’s club commitment in France and Marquezine needing to stay in Brazil to film her TV show.
They first met at the carnival in Rio de Janeiro in 2012 and have had an on-off relationship ever since.
Neymar continues to be linked with a move away from the French capital, with Real Madrid and former club Barcelona touted as potential destinations.
