Akwa are currently second on the log after 24 matches, which were played before the World Cup break in June. The break has been prolonged due to the recent leadership crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation.

After the seeming resolution of the crisis last Monday, the League Management Company during the week submitted a new proposed calendar for the continuation of the league, which is expected to start on the weekend of September 2 and end in October – with clubs playing two matches every week.

Akwa had resumed for the remaining part of the league season early July and have since played series of inter-club friendly matches while the NFF crisis raged on.

Despite the recent public holiday, the Promise Keepers remained in camp but have now given their players the weekend off as they gear up for the remainder of the season.

“Our training for this week is done and dusted, we will reconvene on Monday evening at the Old Stadium to continue our preparations ahead of the resumption of the second stanza of the @NPFL#PromiseKeepers#2017AiteoCupChampions,” the club wrote.
