Barring any last-minute changes, the second term of the executive governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been sealed with the recent endorsement of the APC national leader and the political godfather of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu today.
This position was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary of the Lagos state governor, Gboyega Akosile today when he announced the development via a Twitter post.
According to the Chief press secretary, the APC national leader confirmed and endorsed the second-term ambition of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat for the 2023 governorship elections.
Akosile also revealed that the Governor, Sanwo-Olu had confirmed that the Governorship nominations forms were purchased by Tinubu himself which shows a 100% endorsement from the Lagos state strong man who is also a presidential aspirant of the APC.
Recall there have been speculations about Sanwo-Olu’s second-term ambition.
It was gathered that the GAC, the Governors’ Advisory Council, a high-ranking political body in the state which determines the flow of the APC governorship ticket, had failed to reach a decision about Sanwo-Olu’s future.
Recently, there were also viral reports about Sanwo-Olu’s failure to clinch the return ticket to the Lagos state government house.
This had enabled a rival APC group in the state to drum support for the come-back of the former governor, Akinwumi Ambode as a better candidate to clinch the ACP ticket in the state.
In the videos shared by the governor’s press secretary, Tinubu could be seen raising the hands of Sanwo-Olu and his deputy signaling their presentation to the Lagos state APC and also, their endorsement to pick the party’s ticket for re-election in the coming governorship elections.
