Riot As Customs Allegedly Kill Youth On New Year’s Eve

There was pandemonium in Oke-Odan, Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun State following the alleged killing of a youth by men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on New Year’s Eve.

It was gathered that the customs officers resorted to sporadic gunshots while chasing a suspected car smuggler along Idiroko border road.

This incident, it was gathered, led to a riot as youths of Oke-Odan barricaded the international road, causing heavy gridlock.

One Dies, Four Others Injured In Anambra Multiple Accident

One person has died in a multiple accident that occurred in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

DAILY POST gathered that the accident involved four vehicles conveying a total of 25 persons, and that the accident happened when one of the vehicles involved violated a route.

An eyewitness said, while one male passenger died as a result of the accident, four others sustained varying degrees of injuries and we’re already receiving treatment in a hospital in the area.

Sector Public Education Officer in Anambra command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Edor confirmed the accident.

Nigerian Soldier Kills Mother For Being A ‘Witch’

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested an Army Corporal, Charles Thomson, for allegedly killing his mother, Modupe Thompson.

The incident happened on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at their residence in Sabon G.R.A, Kaduna.

Speaking while being paraded at the police headquarters on Thursday, the 30-year-old soldier, who confessed to the alleged culpable homicide of his mother, said he stabbed her to death because she was a witch.

Nigerian Government Investigates Murder Of 27-Year-Old Citizen Killed By Irish Police

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has said it is awaiting the outcome of an investigation into the killing of a 27-year-old Nigerian, Mr George Nkencho, in Dublin, Ireland, by the police, while expressing dissatisfaction with the incident.

The NIDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the killing as “callous” in a statement on Thursday.

A statement by NIDCOM Head of Media, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said Dabiri-Erewa also described the death of the young Nigerian by a police officer as “wicked”.

Lagos Govt Renders Hundreds Homeless On New Year Eve

Hundreds of people who reside at Monkey Village, an informal rural settlement in the Opebi area of Lagos, have been rendered homeless following the demolition of the settlement by the Lagos state government.

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and its task force carried out the demolition on Thursday.

The residents, aggrieved by the sudden demolition told PREMIUM TIMES they were not given any notice by the state government.

While the demolition of shanties and illegal settlement takes place in Lagos often, it is unusual for the government to demolish a settlement without prior notice.
