Lagos Police threaten showdown as youths plan fresh #EndSARS protest

 

The Lagos State Police Command has threatened that “security agencies will not fold their arms” as youths plan fresh protests against police brutality and extortion. This was contained in a press statement on Sunday by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, titled ‘No room for violent protest, gathering in Lagos’. The statement was issued after a poster titled “#EndSARS reloaded phase II” went viral on social media.

In a copy of the poster obtained by our correspondent on Sunday, it was stated that the “phase II” of the #EndSARS protest would begin on Monday, December 7 in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Delta, and Bayelsa. The demands of the protesters, according to the poster, are “Buhari, Buratai, Sanwo-Olu must resign and face ICC for killing innocent Nigerians at Lekki toll; free all #EndSARS protesters; unfreeze all bank accounts of #EndSARS protesters and referendum.”

Reacting, the police described the organisers as “unpatriotic”, warning that “any unlawful gathering, procession or protest will be suppressed”. The statement read, “The Lagos State Police Command has again warned against any gathering, procession or protest in Lagos State as some unpatriotic individuals and groups are planning to embark on the replica of the recent destructive and violent Endsars protest that left pains and agonies in Lagos State

“The Command has reliably gathered intelligence that certain individuals/groups have concluded plans to lure unsuspecting Lagosians, especially youths, into their planned protest which is proposed to commence tomorrow, Monday 7th December, 2020 at designated locations in the state.

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has issued a statement on the recent bye-elections organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on saturday. The President disclosed that the results of the exercise show that his party, the All progressives Congress, APC remains the party of the people.

“Results coming from the states of the long list of bye-elections show definitely that our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), remains the chosen party of Nigerians. We do not take this confidence of the people for granted and we will not fail them.” the statement read. “Nigerians who appreciate the efforts of the administration in making life better for all citizens, especially under an economy facing the severest test from the global Coronavirus pandemic will not be disappointed.”

A crowd of 2,000 Tottenham fans enjoyed their return for the first time in nine months as Harry Kane and Son Heung-min combined again to beat Arsenal 2-0 and move back top of the Premier League on Sunday. Jose Mourinho’s men moved two points clear of Chelsea at the summit with another statement performance to display their credentials to win a first league title in 60 years.

Ex-governor Dickson Wins Bayelsa-West Senatorial Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, the winner of Bayelsa West Senatorial Bye-election.

Dickson, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, polled 115,257 while Peremobowei Ebebi of the All Progressives Congress Scored 17500 votes.

 

 

NASS Bye-election: Diri wins LG for PDP

Governor Douye Diri proved the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he won the local government, Kolokuma/Opokuma for the party’s candidate in the Bayelsa Central bye-election.

The result collated by the Collation Officer, Dr Abiodun Adelegan for K indicated that out of the 26,831 accredited voters, the PDP candidate, Mr Moses Cleopas polled 20, 992 votes while Mr Abel Ebifemowei of the All Progressive Congress(APC) polled 4, 980 votes.

 

 

We are ready for renegotiation of 2009 agreement – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said it is ready for the renegotiation of the agreement it reached with the Federal Government in 2009. This was stated yesterday by the National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in a chat with our correspondent.

Ogunyemi, however, said the union would want to see which area of the agreement the government would want expunged. “We are not aversed to negotiation and sitting down with other stakeholders to consider the way forward. Therefore, we are ready to meet with the team they set up to meet with us. When they are ready, let them call us.

 

 

Abia governor suspends chief of staff for spraying cash on Odumeje

 

 

The Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazụ, has suspended his Chief of Staff, ACB Agbazuere.

The governor’s decision was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Chris Ezem. He said the suspension is with immediate effect.

The suspension may not be unconnected to a viral video where the Chief of staff was seen spraying money on controversial prophet Odumeje popularly known as Indabosky.

 

Man kills eight-year-old nephew, cooks his head

 

A 22-year-old man killed his eight-year-old nephew who had sought shelter at his home from the heavy rains.

The suspect from Matova Village in Zimbabwe went on to cut off the boy’s head and boiled it in a pot.

He was found by alert neighbours on Saturday morning while hiding in his kitchen where he had locked himself from inside. The boy was in Grade 2 at Matova Primary School.
