Shehu Sani, ex Senator of the Nigeria’s 8th Assembly, has faulted the Federal Government for the closure of the country’s boarders and subsequent directive for citizens to return to farming.
In a tweet on Friday, the former Kaduna Central Senator expressed his thoughts on the concerted efforts of several government agencies to ensuring a boost in agricultural production.
Recall that some of the country’s boarders had been shut to forestall the importation or smuggling of some farm produce, Forex has also been restricted on the importation of a number of products.
All these the Government says, it does, in line with its goal of diversifying the economy, to boost the Agricultural sector.
But Senator Sani doesn’t seem to be a fan of the whole idea as he has questioned the security of the citizenry the government expects to return to these farms.
“They closed the border and want people to go back to the farm; There’s no problem with going to the farm, the problem is coming back from the farm.” He expressed.

His position may not be unconnected to the increasing reports of banditry and kidnappings – especially in locations considered to be agricultural hubs, and of course the incessant cases of Herders – Farmers clashes.
