Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye has identified lack of respect for its citizens by the Nigerian government as the reason why foreign countries do not respect Nigerians.
According to him, in a tweet on Saturday, the Government needs to imbibe the practice of respecting its citizens, that way, Nigerians will be accorded respect internationally.
His remarks may not be unconnected to the renewed wave of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in south Africa.
He went on to declare that “The office of the citizen is greater than that of the President”
“Our Govt should practice Citizen Diplomacy. We need to do more in the international scene to show the world that we care, respect & value our citizens. When we disregard our citizens, the World will do same. The office of the citizen is greater than the office of the President” Dino tweeted.
