Senator Douye Diri has emerged as the winner of the governorship election primary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State.
The Senator who currently represents Bayelsa Central District at the National Assembly defeated 19 other aspirants to emerge as the PDP candidate for the November 16 governorship election in the state.
A PDP committee led by Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, conducted the primary exercise which was held at Dr. Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa. According to reports, the primary exercise began at 11:30 pm on Tuesday night and was concluded by 5:00 am on Wednesday morning.
The Bayelsa Central Senator polled a total of 561 votes to defeat his closest rival, Timi Alaibe, a former Presidential Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs who polled 365 votes.
