Court Adjourns Diezani’s $40 million Forfeiture Suit

Reports on Thursday suggest that a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has adjourned the $40 million forfeiture suit filed by the EFCC against former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke till September 2.

The trial judge, Justice Nicholas adjourned the case in a bid to give parties time to respond to pending applications

Earlier on, on July 5 the court had ordered the temporary forfeiture of 2,149 pieces of jewellery and a customised golden iPhone confiscated from Madueke’s home.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had alleged that the items were purportedly bought with illicit funds. acquired during her time in power under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
Prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo had earlier informed the court that he had just been served with a counter affidavit and would require some time to respond.

Counsel to the defendant also informed the court that would appreciate an adjournment as the chamber’s resources were presently overstretched.

Justice Oweibo upheld their prayers and adjourned proceedings until September.
