Reports just coming in reveals that former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Waparimo-Owei Dudafa and a staff of Heritage bank, Iwejuo Joseph who were charged for laundering the sum of N1.6 billion were this Thursday discharged and acquitted over money laundering charges leveled against them.
The duo were charged with a 22-count criminal charge.
According to the judgement, the presiding Judge, Idris Mohammed said the the Economic and Financial Crimes prosecutor tried but failed to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt as important witnessed like the ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, former Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria as well as members of the Anglican Church Otuoke were not called up to testify in the case.
Also, aside from the above shortfall, justice Idris noted that the EFCC’s investigation was not thorough, in-depth, decisive or conclusive as the prosecutor merely based his case on assumptions and not legal findings and as such could therefore not prove his case.
This came with the result that it was difficult to convict the defendants and as a result they were discharged and acquitted.
