Why Igbos have sympathy for Atiku, PDP, Tinubu’s loyalist Igbokwe speaks

Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Publicity Secretary, Mr Joe Igbokwe has revealed the major reason the Igbo community voted en masse for the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential poll.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was the Presidential candidate of PDP, he picked the former governor of Anambra State Peter Obi as his running mate. They were defeated by the candidate of the ruling APC.

Igbokwe who is one of the strongest political allies of the National Leader APC, Aiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said ethnicity played a significant role during the election.

Igbokwe ascribed the low Igbo votes in Lagos for President Muhammad Buhari during the 2019 general elections to ethnicity, stating that the Igbo community had sentiment for PDP because its running mate, Peter Obi, was an Igbo man.

PDP and its candidate are challenging the victory of the Buhari at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The die-hard APC man spoke with newsmen shortly he was screened by the Lagos State House of Assembly.

He expressed surprise that members of the state House of Assembly did not allow him to take a bow when he appeared before them for screening.

He told newsmen that he was asked more than 15 questions when appeared before the screening committee of the house describing it as “excruciating.”

The Lagos Assembly screening committee was chaired by the Chief Whip, Rotimi Abiru.

Igbokwe was among the 13 commissioners and special advisers designate whose names were sent to the state lawmakers by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Seven of the 13 nominees were screened on Thursday.
