President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his administration’s desire to take the nation’s agricultural sector to the next level.
The president said this as a follow up to his earlier announcement of Forex restrictions on food imports.
According to him, in a twitter message on Wednesday, the administration will build on the achievements of the first term – which saw the country partner with Morocco to revive abandoned fertilizer blending plants across the country- to ensure self sustenance in food production is achieved.
He disclosed his administration will continue to introduce and implement policies that will support cultivation and consumption of locally produced food items – which will in turn provide jobs and and expand rural economy.

We also developed the food security program that provided capital to large scale food processors to enable them to off-take the grains produced by smallholder farmers. All of these, and more, aimed at addressing the value-chain issues confronting Agriculture in Nigeria.

Over the next four years we will continue to introduce & implement policies that will support cultivation and consumption of locally produced food items. Nigeria stands to benefit a lot, in terms of jobs, expansion of our rural economy, savings in our foreign reserves, and so on.
