El-Zakzaky: Deji Adeyanju Blasts Buhari On Continued Disobedience Of Court Orders

Acclaimed human rights activist and campaigner, Deji Adeyanju has reacted to the foot dragging of the Buhari government and its willful disobedience of court orders.

The activist while tweeting on Friday, says no one is entitled to take the law into his or her own hands much more the government, saying that if a government treats court orders with levity and contempt, the confidence of citizens in the courts will be eroded and people will resort to self help.

Continuing, he said that the court system cannot be maintained without the willingness of parties to abide by its decisions, concluding that the government needs to be wary of court orders, as he says the government more than anyone else needs the court to govern and both the state and citizens are subject to the rule of law.

#FreeZakzakyNow: No one including the government is entitled to take the law into his own hands. If a government should treat COURT ORDERS with levity & contempt, the confidence of citizens in the Courts will be eroded and people will resort to self help.

The court system cannot be maintained without the willingness of parties to abide by its decisions. A government cannot, therefore, say “I do not like this order of court, so I will not obey it”. Government cannot choose which order of court to obey or disobey.

If anyone should be wary of court orders, it should be the government; for they more than anyone else need them to govern. Both the state and the citizens are subject to the rule of law.
