The race for who becomes the next governor of Kogi State come November this year is certainly heating up.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had announced earlier in May that the election would be held on 16th of November, 2019.
With the date set, the ruling party is certainly looking to retain control of the state popularly called the Confluence State because of the confluence of River Niger and River Benue located at Lokoja, it’s capital which also happens to be the first administrative capital of modern-day Nigeria.
One man in the midst of it all that is looking to change the narrative is the son of the state’s former governor, Abubakar Audu.

His quest is coming on the heels of the continued perceived lacklustre performance of the incumbent, Yahaya Bello who appears to have lost touch with his constituent.
The governor has been bedevilled with so many controversies, internal bickering top of which is the running battle he is involved in with his deputy, Simon Achuba who just recently raised an alarm of an alleged plot of the governor to kill him.
As they say, one man’s loss is another man’s gain.
Mona Audu appears to be riding on the wave of the moment to drive home his candidacy. In his reaction, he had indirectly castigated the governor opining that if the state`s incumbent governor had performed well in office, he would not need to lobby the presidency for its endorsement, ostensibly referring to the governor reported plead with President Buhari to help brighten his chances of scaling through the hurdle.
Already Twitter is agog as it seems people are warming up to his candidacy. Reactions monitored by Opera News are re-produced below:
