The popular Arab Spring was a series of anti-government protests, uprisings, and armed rebellions that spread across North Africa and the Middle East in the early 2010s.
Following decades of repression of free speech, human rights abuses, economic mis-management, corruption and stifling of political dissent in Egypt, the Arab Spring or as some would rather call it, Arab awakening started off in Tunisia when a street vendor in a provincial town of Sidi Bouzid sparked mass anti-government protests.
