Senate Suspends Recess, Rules To Fast-track Screening Of Buhari’s Cabinet List

In order expedite action on the screening of 43 ministerial nominees sent in by President Muhammadu Buhari, the senate has announced suspension of its recess to originally scheduled to commence next week.

President Buhari had on Tuesday submitted, to the National Assembly, names of nominees expected to be members of his second term cabinet.
After confirming receipt of the list, the senate is expected to screen all members of the list – which included 12 returning ministers and 7 women.

Announcing the suspension of its recess, Chairman of the Senate Ad hoc Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, confirmed the upper chamber decided to move it by a week to allow it do a thorough job in the screening of the 43 ministerial nominees.
“the Senate will also sit on Friday and Monday which are usually not plenary days “so that we can finish the screening exercise between Wednesday and end of next week” Adeyeye said.
He also stated that the house will also suspend its rules to allow the screening to last till as late as 10pm from Wednesday.
The president’s cabinet list featured new comers; Festus Keyamo, Godswill Akpbio, shahron Ikeazor familiar names; Ogbonnaya Onu, Chris Ngige, Babatunde Fashola among others.
