The entire Southwest region was thrown into mourning Friday, July 12, 2019 when news filtered in that Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of Afenifere had been killed by heavily armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
The killers were yet to be apprehended at the time of this report, but according to the former Aviation Minister Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, the deceased was in the United State to attend a year birthday celebration of her granddaughter.
Late Funke Fasoranti-Olakunrin was with her daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, in-laws and other close relatives and family friends, she never knew she would be killed upon return to Nigeria, her country home.
According to Fani-Kayode, Late Mrs. Olakunrin “went there to celebrate her grandaughter’s 1st birthday and these pictures are of that occasion.
“Little did they know that one week later she would be killed by Fulani herdsmen in the streets of Ore in Nigeria and that they would never see her again.
“May her soul rest in peace and may God comfort her father, her children, her grandchildren and every member of her beautiful family.”
According to the deceased father, Pa Fasoranti, Mrs. Olakunrin came to bid him farewell on Friday morning before she was killed.
Fasoranti said “she came to me around 9:00 am to bid me farewell. I only heard in the evening she is no more.
“The President [Muhammadu Buhari] called me to commiserate with me, but I told him to halt these killings in our land.”
Meanwhile, the National leader of All Progressives Congress Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday paid a condolence visit to to the home of the Afenifere leader, Chief Fasoranti, over the killing of his daughter.

Tinubu urged the people of the region not to allow the incident to divide Nigeria but to serve as a solution to the security challenges confronting the country.
He prayed for the Olakurin family and the Afenifere leader. Tinubu was one of the Nigerian politicians who called the Afenifere leader before paying a condolence visit.
