Gov Sanwo-Olu celebrates first birthday in office

Babajide Sanwo-Olu is celebrating his first birthday in office as the governor of Lagos State.

Born June 25, 1965, Sanwo-Olu won the March 9 governorship election in the most populous Nigerian city, beating other 44 contenders.

His journey to the Alausa Building didn’t come smoothly even as he had the full support of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

At a time, when it was obvious that he would be the only candidate who would be running against the former governor Akinwumi Ambode at the primaries, Ambode released a bombshell targetted at upsetting Sanwo-Olu.

Ambode had claimed that his challenger wasn’t fit to rule. Political observers believed that it was obvious that Sanwo-Olu was going to win overwhelmingly against the incumbent at the time.

But the propaganda would not deter and stop Sanwo-Olu from winning the primaries. He enjoyed the support of one of the most powerful politicians in Nigeria, Sanwo-Olu also showed in his speech that he’s ready for the task.

Writing on his Twitter page, the former banker said he had nothing to say than to give praises to God.

“Birthdays are a reminder of the importance of cherishing moments and taking opportunities. The last 365 days have been extremely special and I am thankful to God for grace, friends, family, love and Lagos.”

At the time of publishing this article, his supporters had started sending him birthday wishes, one of them is a former Minister of State for Defence, Mr Ademola Sekiri.

“My Dearest Governor and Brother, Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns! May God bless your new age-Amen! God has favoured you and will grant you good health and wisdom to sustain it-Amen! Boundless Mercy and Prosperity are your forever portions-Amen! Congratulations JS! One love!”

Some of his well-wishers are also using the opportunity to call the attention of the governor to some pressing needs that would make them enjoy their stay in the commercial city.

“Happy birthday your excellency. May God surround you with people of wisdom and give you bless you with discernment and tact to carry out your duties. Meanwhile, please can @Lagoswater perform their duties? It’s unfair that our money is tied down for services not being rendered,” Deborah Nwaohiri tweeted.
