Sanwo-Olu, PDP chieftain, others congratulate new Senate President Lawan

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated the newly elected Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan.

Sanwo-Olu tweeted his congratulatory message a few minutes after the Yobe State born Senator defeated his rival Senator Ali Ndume on June 11, 2019.

Lawan polled 78 votes while 28 members voted for Ndume, who had refused to step down for Lawan despite several persuasion by the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the presidency.

Lawan took an oath of office shortly after he was declared the winner, making him the 9th President of the Senate. He succeeds Bukola Saraki, who failed to make it the Upper Legislative Chamber.

“Congratulations to the freshly minted Senate President, Ahmed Lawan of the 9th National Assembly”

Also, a member of Peoples’ Democratic Party  (PDP) Mr Femi Fani-Kayode wished the new president of the Senate the best.

“Congratulations to Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan who has emerged as Nigeria’s Senate President. May God guide you,” the controversial politician tweeted.

Fani-Kayode was the former Aviation Minister under the administration of former Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan.

Thousands of his admirers have also taken to the social media to send congratulatory messages to the 9th President of the Senate.
