The highest Igbo socio-cultural group known as the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has berated President Muhammadu Buhari for attending a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Countries in Saudi Arabia less than a day after taking the oath of office for a second tenure.
In a press statement issued by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary the group disclosed that the president owed his citizen an explanation.
He stated that
“Why immediate attendance of Organisation of Islamic Countries, OIC, meeting in Saudi Arabia a day after his swearing in. Mr President Buhari owes Nigerians that explanation.’’
, “This is a secular country and a leader that wants to be a mullah or fanatic is free to resign rather than plunge us into a religious crisis.”
The socio-cultural group also berated Femi Gbajabiamila, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives for traveling to Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj.
The statement said, “Femi Gbajabiamila, a born again Christian turned into Muslim for political reasons is dangerous to our democracy.
“Although people have a right to change their religion, the sudden change from a Christian to a Muslim and his umrah journey to Mecca just to be Speaker is a bad omen.
“Can we trust such a character who can change his faith for power sake?”

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC; Arabic: منظمة التعاون الإسلامي; French: Organisation de la coopération islamique) is an international organization founded in 1969, consisting of 57 member states, with a collective population of over 1.8 billion as of 2015 with 53 countries being Muslim-majority countries. The organisation states that it is “the collective voice of the Muslim world” and works to “safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony”.
The OIC has permanent delegations to the United Nations and the European Union. The official languages of the OIC are Arabic, English, and French.
On 21 August 1969 a fire was started in the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Amin al-Husseini, the former Mufti of Jerusalem, called the arson a “Jewish crime” and called for all Muslim heads of state to convene a summit. On 25 September 1969, an Islamic Conference, a summit of representatives of 24 Muslim majority countries (most of the representatives being heads of state), was held in Rabat, Morocco.[2][1] A resolution was passed stating that “Muslim government would consult with a view to promoting among themselves close cooperation and mutual assistance in the economic, scientific, cultural and spiritual fields, inspired by the immortal teachings of Islam.”
