Nigeria’s former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has expressed sympathy for his “old friend” and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole.
FFK was reacting to the latest news making the rounds about Oshiomhole being under pressure to resign.
The deputy chairman (North) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Lawal Shuaibu, had called for the resignation of Oshiomhole in a letter to the chairman dated May 27, 2019.
This was after he personally passed vote of no confidence on Mr Oshiomhole and declared his leadership a “failure”.
But reacting, Mr Fani-Kayode said he felt sorry for Oshiomhole, whom he referred to as an old friend, but warned him he has been used and now looks set to be dumped by his own party.
“I feel sorry for my old friend and brother Adams Oshiomole. They have used him and now they want to dump him. Watch your back old friend:these guys don’t take prisoners” he said
FFK also revealed someone powerful was behind the whole move, as a deputy could not have dared asking his boss to resign without backing.
“When your Deputy publicly calls for you to step down you know that someone powerful and strategic is behind it” he said.
For Mr Shuaibu, in a five-page open letter, he accused Mr Oshiomhole was causing the party to lose the seats.
Recall that the Supreme Court on Friday had ended a winding legal tussle on the emergence of APC’s candidates for various posts in Zamfara state.
The court invalidated votes cast for the party in the elections and directed the electoral body, INEC, to recognise the runner-ups for various positions.
The All Progressives Congress had gone on to lose seats recklessly since 2015. For instance, the APC had 23 states in 2015 but after the 2019 elections, lost 7 states; also had 60 senators in 2015, but now has ended up with 57 and could lose more.
