Activist Deji Adyanju has berated Kaduna Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai for not having the balls to welcome criticism.
He made the comments following recent arrests and persecution by the El-Rufai, of some activists who have expressed different opinions from that of that of the governor.
Recall that Governor El-Rufai had recently arrested Stephen Kefas, a journalist and human rights activist who is a vocal critic of his administration is missing.
Kefas as was arrested earlier in may for reposting a SaharaReporters article which detailed the Adara emirate tussle with the governor of Kaduna State which led to the death of late Kajuru monarch Dr. Maiwada Galadima.
Reacting, Deji Adeyanju, who himself was a subject of Federal Government persecution in the lead up to the 2019 general elections, in which he spent several months in Kano prison, had expressed disappointment that El-Rufai, who once went over the top in criticizing former president Goodluck Jonathan would be shy of taking criticism.
Deji wrote: Same el-Rufai that was a perpetual protester under GEJ. He called GEJ a terrorist; Called GEJ sponsor of Boko Haram; Called GEJ clueless; Called GEJ corrupt and a thief; Called GEJ a drunkard; But nothing happened to him under GEJ. Today, he can’t stand criticism of any kind.

According to him, that was a deliberate attempt to shrink Civic Space in Nigeria.
Recall that in 2013, two years before his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, ousted the former president, Goodluck Jonathan El-Rufai had criticized the Jonathan-led federal government, during whose administration the Boko Haram insurgency became very pronounced and deadly.
El-Rufai said that the then president was trying to deal with the insurgency by using military might only. He insisted that all over the people spearheading the insurgency are known to both the security agencies and President, but that he does not care about the welfare of the masses.
In his words in 2013, he was quoted thus;
“We are just applying military force and we think we can resolve an insurgency, it’s not going to happen,” El-Rufai said at the time.
“I’ve been in government, I’ve run a territory and I know the amount of information, security reports that I get as Minister. The President gets 50 times that.
“And I put it to you and I challenge anyone, including the DG SSS, to this. The SSS know who these insurgents are, they are not gods, they know them. The President knows them and they know what to do. They are just unwilling to do it. They don’t care.”
