END IS NEAR! Gov. Yari Should Stop Chasing After Buhari, He’s Not Behind Him, Sen. Marafa Shades Zamfara Governor Ahead of Supreme Court Decision on State APC Crisis

Ahead of the Supreme Court judgment on the appeals filed by Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state concerning the APC primaries held in the state in 2018, there has been concerns from the parties involved.

A picture surfaced online on Sunday, showing Governor Yari breaking his Ramadan fast with President Muhammadu Buhari in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, which caused serious tension ahead of the court judgment.

In reaction to the meet-up, the Senator representing Zamfara Central at the Nigerian Senate, Kabiru Marafa, has raised alarm over alleged attempt by Yari to influence the outcome of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the crisis rocking the ruling APC in the state.

He noted that Yari and the Emir of Maradun, Alhaji Garba Tambari, had iftar dinner with President Buhari in Makkah.

Ahead of Friday’s ruling, the governor’s camp had requested the Supreme Court to set aside the judgment of the Appeal Court which upturned the ruling of the Zamfara High Court upon which INEC recognised the candidates nominated by the governor for the last general elections.

However, Marafa said in his statement, “the uninvited and unwanted company of Yari at this point in time when the Supreme Court had fixed Friday 24 for judgment on Yari and APC Appeal amounts to contempt.

“I can authoritatively say that the president is not with the wicked and unjust, the President stands for fairness and justice to all party members.

“This is illustrated by his (Buhari) call to all aggrieved party members to approach the courts for redress on any injustice meted out on them by the party or any individual.

“For the avoidance of any doubt, let me state that the president has never been happy with the happenings in Zamfara and he stands with the people of the state on this issue.

“Those dropping his name to influence judgement are his enemies, enemies of democracy, enemies of the people of Zamfara State in particular and the nation in general.

“It is quite disheartening that Governor Yari and the Emir of Maradun will leave their domain on Saturday, the very day 13 people were killed during iftar and the bandits refused to allow the villagers to even bury their loved ones. Yari and the Emir decided to abandon them and travel to Saudi Arabia to dine with the president so that he can get undue advantage.”

The incumbent Chairman of Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) urged the esteemed judges of the Supreme Court to discharge their responsibility without fear or favour.

“The president is interested in justice only and not anybody or group of persons,” he said.

Marafa also revealed that no fewer than 13 people were killed on Saturday in Gidan Kaso village of Birnin Magaji local Government area of Zamfara state.
