Nigerians react as Oyetola defeats Davido’s uncle Ademola Adeleke at Appeal Court

Following the dismissal of the ruling of the Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal by the Appeal Court a few minutes ago, reactions have trailed the judgement.

The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had declared the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, as the winner of the September 2018 poll.

Adeleke is the uncle of Nigeria’s music sensation Davido. Before the appellate court judgement, Davido had taken to Twitter urging Nigerians to pray for his uncle.

The judgement was handed down by a five-man panel led by Justice Jummai Sankey. The Court of Appeal upheld the appeal filed by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State challenging the verdict of the tribunal and affirmed him as duly elected

Before today, Davido has also continued to update his fans on the progress of the Osun state gubernatorial election court case.

Reactions of Nigerians to the ruling:

“So anything that doesn’t favour you means Nigeria is dead? Must everything come in your favour can you always fight just because you have passion for a particular candidate please think in word,” Popoola Tayo said.

“That’s how it runs, Federal high court gives you the ruling, makes their money, you run randy in happiness, appeal court, mostly working for the presidency overturns it. You turn to the supreme court, but then you don’t hope on much, knowing Buhari has fortified that place for himself and his cronies,” says Nwabueze Okezie Michael.

“Is judiciary still last hope of ordinary Nigerians? I can see the exchange of currencies in actions… The people’s choice must prevail …#Supreme Court our hope. Dick and Harry in Nigeria know that Adeleke wins Osun governorship election. Judiciary protect your name pls,” Chidi Chris Okoro

According to Francis Fagbamigbe, Nigerians abuse judges when a judgement isn’t in their favour.

He said. “I begin to wonder why some Nigerians don’t believe in the judiciary any more. Cases are judged according to by genuine evidence on the ground. The wrong notion of some unlearned people was that election in Osun State was rigged which was not correct. Their expectations were that the opposition which they so much believed should win.

“It does not work like that in some cases. Whatever may be your comments here, the judiciary has pronounced the rightful winner. With good lawyers and genuine evidence, the Supreme Court will do the same.

“Let us stop castigating the judiciary for doing the right thing, but commend them only if it favours you. This is not acceptable. However, whatever may be your remark on any judgement, the judiciary has done their job and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do. We should learn to accept defeat always.”

Corroborating Fagbamigbe point, Adebayo Johnson said, “When the pendulum falls on ur favourable slide, there is justice in the courts but if the contrary is the case, there is no justice.

“Amongst the two contenders must be a winner and a loser. Develop a big heart to accept your faith as a sportsman. This spirit is lacked in Nigerian players of games, especially politics. Too bad.”

To Bamidele Adeleke, the Appeal Court ruling is a travesty of justice, “Appeal court lead judgement dismissed the Tribunal ruling based on the allegation that 1 of the Judges on the Tribunal panel was absent in ONE of the sittings that lasted 5 Months!”

Davido, PDP, and other powerful members of the opposition party are yet to react at the time of this compilation, we’ll keep you updated.
