The 2019 general election in Oyo state changed the dynamics of politics in the South-west region of the state.
All Progressives Congress (APC) had massive win in the state during the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly election, considering that it won more federal seats in the state than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
But in the March 9 Governorship and State Assembly election in the state, the PDP launched its own comeback as it won more State Assembly seats and went ahead to clinch the governorship seat when INEC declared Seyi Makinde as the winner of the state’s governorship election.
APC’s loss in the March 9 election had been foreseen righr before it happened, as the incumbent governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi, lost his election bid for the Oyo South Senatorial seat in the February 23 election.
Ajimobi, who has since congratulated the governor-elect in the state an started rounding up his tenure of office to hand over on May 29 to the opposition party has warned members of his ruling APC, and other supporters of the party to desist from dwelling over what he described as “questionable loss” of the party in the last general elections.
The governor gave the admonition while addressing guests at a thanksgiving service to mark the 60th birthday of his wife, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, held at the Government House, Ibadan.

He said God’s kindness made it possible for him to break the second term jinx and recorded many unprecedented feats, saying he had no reason to regret over his senatorial election loss, saying that God had been merciful and kind to him to use him to rewrite the history of the state for good.
Ajimobi said that he, therefore, had no reason to regret or worry over his failed senatorial bid and his unsuccessful attempt to hand over to a successor from his party, the All Progressives Congress.

“As individuals, if we can think deeply on a daily basis, we will know that God has been kind to us. I’m the 27th governor of this state and unarguably the longest serving in the history of Oyo State. So, I want people to be happy for us because God has used us to do many things in this state. I therefore want to say to our supporters again that there is no cause for regrets. They should stop ruing or brooding over our questionable loss in the last election.”
At the event were: Wife of the Vice President of Nigeria, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo; Wife of Ekiti State governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi; her Imo State counterpart, Mrs Nkechi Okorocha; Wife of Ogun State Governor-elect, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun; and Wife of the immediate past governor of Osun State, Mrs Sherifat Aregbesola.
