Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, a former Governor of Oyo State and an elder-statesman has issued an advise and warning to some   High Chiefs in Ibadan land to sheath their swords disclosing to them that the interest and well-being of the ancient city is greater than their personal ambition.

Image result for OlubadanThe veteran politician who is the Osi Olubadan of Ibadan, disclosed that he doesn’t agree with some inciting and abusive statements released by some High Chiefs in the Olubadan-In-Council about Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadan land, who stood his ground that the revered High Chiefs must remain High Chiefs and not crwoned Obas and must stop seeing themselves as crowned Oba.

The fracas which has destroy the relationship between the monarch and his High Chiefs who constitute the Olabadan-In -Council commenced when the governor of Oyo State, Mr Abiola Ajimobi declared that the state government has made a resolution to do a thorough review of the Olubadan Chieftancy title declaration.

Image result for Olubadan-In-CouncilThe governor on 27th September 2017 gave the staff of offices and crowns to the High Chiefs and declared that the High Chiefs who are members of the Olubadan-In-Council have been elevated to the position of Obas  (Kings).

The revered High Chiefs were elevated as Obas by the State government without a clearly marked territory and they still constitute the Olubadan-in-Council and according to the ancient tradition they are still successor in line to the Olubadan throne, They have been calling parading as crowned Obas since they were presented crowns and staffs by Governor Ajimobi in 2017.Image result for Olubadan-In-CouncilThe first class monarch insists that he is the only King in the ancient city of Ibadan while his High Chiefs argued that they are also crowned Kings on their own.leading to cold war between the monarch and the High Chiefs.

But on Monday, some members of the Olubadan-in-Council led by the second command to the Olubadan,High Chief Lekan Balogun who is the  the Otun Olubadan. pointed accusing finger at the saying hi is running a one man leadership style.

Image result for Olubadan-In-CouncilBut in a swift response the Olubadan speaking through Mr.Adeola Oloko, his media assistant disclosed that the monarch had done no wrong and asked the High Chiefs to remove their illegal crown and return back to perform their revered role as members of the Olubadan-in-Council.

High Chief Balogun, who bare the minds of his colleagues faulted some claims by the monarch and disclosed that the issues raised in their grievances against the monarch had not yet be attended to. in his statement “nefarious activities going on in his palace such as non-screening of prospective Mogajis (family heads) and Baales (village head) by the council before installation; the cash and carry manner by which people now get positions of Mogaji and Baale, leading to the appointment of more than one Mogaji from the same compound and relinquishing of the palace authority to ‘Olori’ (the wife of the monarch) among others have been answered.

Image result for Olubadan-In-Council But in a statement by Ladoja made available to the press by his Media Aide, Mr. Lanre Latinwo said that, “the High Chiefs were being economical with the truth knowing fully well that they were on several occasions invited to attend meetings in the palace but refused to do so”.

“It is on record that several invitations were sent to them to attend Olubadan – in – council meetings at the Popoyemoja Palace of the referred Olubadan of which they never attended.

“In those letters of invitations, they were addressed with their titles e.g Otun Olubadan, Balogun etc.

“Unfortunately, since their installations as “Obas” they have been referring to themselves as ‘Obas-in-council’ and not as members of Olubadan-in-council, holding their meetings in Mapo Hall refusing to come to the Olubadan palace”.

In his statement  “Ibadanland is greater than anybody no matter how highly placed”.

“What is paramount in the mind of the Monarch is how to move Ibadanland to the greater heights, which he is expecting the co-operation of all members of the Olubadan-in-council.”
