Adamawa governor-elect, Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri, on Friday, March 29, has begun to make some promises to back his huge win in the just concluded supplementary elections in the state. He has promised to implement the new minimum wage of N30,000 when approved by President Muhammadu Buhari. Fintiri who emerged winner on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party made the promise while speaking with newsmen in Yola.

The Adamawa state governorship election was concluded late Thursday, March 28, with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmadu Fintiri, defeating the incumbent governor, Mohammed Bindow. At the end of the announcement of results from the supplementary election, the PDP polled 10,480 votes while APC secured 1391 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in all the 14 local government areas where the exercise held.

The party won in polling units 007 and 008 at Bako ward in Yola as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concluded the governorship supplementary election in Adamawa state today, Thursday, March 28. The PDP scored 150 votes while arch opponent, the All Progressives Congress (APC), had 68 votes at the polling unit 008. Also, at the polling unit 007, the PDP polled a whopping 185 votes, to beat the APC which secured 60 votes. The election was seen as a contest between two major candidate of APC and PDP Governor Jibrilla Bindow and Ahmadu Fintiri respectively.

It was reported that he defeated incumbent Governor Muhammadu Bindow of APC and 28 other candidates in the just-concluded supplementary governorship election. He said: “I will give civil service priority attention and make it more effective. As a matter of matter of priority, I will be first to implement it, so that we don’t experience any workers strike.”

He also assured students that his administration would be committed to resuscitating scholarship scheme, youth empowerment and other programmes to move the state forward. He thanked the people of the state for electing him and promised not to disappoint them. Fintiri said: “We are also going to pay WAEC and NECO fees for students to reduce burden on parents. The people have given us their mandate and God has actualised it today. We will ensure that we deliver on our campaign promises and manifesto to them. We urged them to remain calm, law-abiding as they celebrate and wait for our swearing-in ceremony.”

Recall that it was earlier reported that the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, had reacted to the victory of the party at the governorship election in Adamawa, where he hails from. Atiku, who commended the people of the state for voting for the PDP governorship candidate, Ahmadu Fintiri, said he looked forward to working with the latter.

He wrote, “Congratulations to the man of our people, governor-elect, Ahmadu Fintiri. The hope that our people in Adamawa repose in you is well placed and I look forward to working with you to make our state great again.”

Even the Senate president, Bukola Saraki sent in his congratulatory messages to the governor-elect.

Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara also sent hearty felicitations as well.
