Civil Rights group, ‘Our Mumu Don Do’ movement has sacked it’s convener, Charlyboy over allegations of receiving money from President Muhammadu Buhari’s Campaign Director, Festus Keyamo to attack Atiku Abubakar. Shortly before his sack, Human rights activist and co-convener of the concerned Nigerian group, ‘Our Mumu Don Do’ movement, Deji Adeyanju resigned his membership of the group. The “Our Mumu Don Do” movement was led by maverick Nigerian entertainer and activist, Mr Charles Oputa, a.k.a Charly Boy or Area Fada.

 

 

Deji Adeyanju accused Charly Boy of betraying the very cause of the movement which he said is fighting against injustice, mis-governance and oppression, by receiving money from Festus Keyamo, which to him was a great betrayal.

 

 

However, the spokesperson of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign, Festus Keyamo, has denied paying a “penny” to Nigerian entertainer, Charly Boy, for a political-motivated music video, adding another twist to the controversy trailing the singer and his ‘OurMumuDonDo’ group.

 

 

“I’ve been having some good laugh. Whoever thinks that I would pay a penny for a song by @Areafada1 that disses both the APC and PDP must have his/her head examined”, Mr Keyamo twitted on Friday on his official handle @Fkeyamo.

 

 

This is coming barely hours after it was reported how the entertainer, whose real name is Charles Oputa, publicly stated that he received at least N100 million from the Buhari campaign as payment for a politically-charged music video.

 

 

In the Music video uploaded on YouTube on January 25, 67-year-old Charly Boy was critical, especially of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

 

“I do not care. But if you want to use my work, you pay for it,” Charly Boy recalled telling Mr Keyamo in an interview with online-based Roots TV that was widely shared on social media on Friday. “Of course, he paid for it. And they paid heavy.”

 

 

Charly Boy said Mr Keyamo, a senior lawyer, actually visited him to discuss the arrest of Deji Adeyanju, a senior member of ‘OurMumuDonDo’ who was spending weeks in a Kano prison for alleged murder, only to then hear a “new song that I was working on…where I was dissing Atiku.”

 

 

Mr Keyamo said in a recent interview that he met with Charly Boy but said everything that transpired between them was private and in furtherance of their relationship of over 25 years.

 

 

Before the establishment of the ‘Our Mumu Don Do’ movement, the co-founders, Charles Oputa a.k.a and Deji Adeyanju had their separate movements which they were leading but shortly before the February presidential elections, the duo decided to come together to form an activist group called the ‘Our Mumu Don Do’ movement.

 

 

The essence of the group is to enlighten the citizens about Nigeria’s democratic process as well as transfer the ownership of the democratic process to the citizens thereby enabling them to engender accountable democracy. The group was initially called ‘The Nigerian Social Contract Initiative’, loosely translated as ‘Na We Be Government’, which is an initiative of the Omudodu Youths Foundation, a.k.a. ‘Our Mumu Don Do’ movement.
