It is now becoming increasingly clear that governor Ambode may likely not get the ticket of the APC to contest the Lagos governorship election in 2019 after the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor E.A Adeboye denied making any overture to the APC national leader, Bola Tinubu on Ambode’s behalf.
Ambode is in a fight to keep his office after it was revealed that the party leadership had decided not to support his ambition to contest for a second term in office. Initially, it was said that Tinubu was behind Ambode’s travails but it is now clear that his troubles goes beyond the desires of the Asiwaju.
To this end, the Governor has been seeking favours from several influential personalities which led to suggestion in some media outlet that he had approached Pastor Adeboya to help with convincing Tinubu regarding his candidacy.
However, in a statement posted on Pastor Adeboye’s Facebook page, the G.O stated that he made no such calls and his is not involved in any form of partisan politics.
The Statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to news making the rounds from dailies especially the New Telegraph Pastor E.A Adeboye, the General Overseer of the RCCG had a recent phone conversation with the Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
“We would like to inform the general public that this is false and Pastor E.A Adeboye has not and would not be involved in inter /intra party politics in Nigeria and anywhere RCCG is present across the world. Pastor E.A Adeboye advices all well meaning Nigerians just like him to get their PVC’s and exercise their civic duty. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria”
