You can’t remove Saraki, Ekweremadu – PDP warns APC

PDP says their arch-rival APC lacks the legislative number and constitutional facilities to Saraki and Ekweremadu from office.

The People’s Democratic Party has finally responded to recent siege at the National Assembly by security operatives from the State Security Services (SSS), and APC’s alleged plot to impeach Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the Deputy Senate President, Professor Ike Ekweremadu.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan on Friday in Abuja, the party advised the Presidency and the APC to accept the reality. It said that Presidency and the APC, having realized that there was no way they could muster the constitutionally required two-third votes of the 109 senators, representing 73 senators, was now engaged in under-hand tactics. These, according to it, include the invasion of the National Assembly.

“Even before then, Nigerians were already aware of moves to use humongous funds to induce lawmakers to trigger crisis in the National Assembly and pave the way for the removal of presiding officers. “Now that they have discovered that there is no way they can achieve their devious intentions, they have commenced a war of blackmail, distortions of fact and media trial against the Senate leadership.”

It said that the attempts would end up as another wasteful venture as Nigerians were aware of the long-drawn desperation to annex the legislature. The PDP added that even among the ranks of APC senators and members of House of Representatives, there is huge aversion to the tactics being deployed to force out duly elected presiding officers of the assembly. It said that such lawmakers were fully aligned with Nigerians, the PDP and the national assembly leadership in the protection of the independence, sanctity and integrity of the parliament and all democratic institutions in the country.

“It is therefore instructive for both the Presidency and the APC to know that there is no way they can remove the leadership of the National Assembly, particularly the Senate.” It cautioned against over-heating the polity and attempts to circumvent rules and the Constitution, saying that such would not change the resolve of Nigerians to vote out APC in 2019.

  2. Comment: Through this medium l salute all who support democracy and rule of law in order to build this nation.
The truth must be told , what we want in Nigeria is simply
credible leaders with the fear of God without selfish interest to destroy this great nation so loved by God .
Many struggled for our independence and majority are no more then why don’t we emulate the example of these great leaders of the past to avoid deceits , manipulations, setbacks and attacks, what we should remember is the future that belongs to our children yet unborn and the inheritance meant for them. The question is what legacy are we leaving behind for these children.
Then the government should look inward to stair the affairs the country in the right direction. Thanks

  3. Comment our democratic system is undergoing serious attack but God shall save us come 2019.

  4. Nigeria voted the political party and the personally with the mandate of the party, everyone has the liberty to join whatever political platform but that not with the party ticket, you are free to move but resign the party ticket with you and stop the drama. APC tickets is still the highest as confirmed by INEC. So whoever is moving cannot move with a party ticket. It’s not done .

    thanks

  5. I pray with all my heart Saraki and Ekweremadu be removed as Senate president and deputy. These people have no honour and shame. How can they enter these high offices through the back door and rejoice in them? I believed God wants to deal with them through their brazen and unholy boldness.
