Special forces of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Onanti banditry operations in Zamfara State have killed two bandits and injured several others who fled with gunshot wounds.

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, disclosed this in a statement today.

According to Naija News, understands that the ongoing anti-banditry operations is not limited to Zamfara state but also, Katsina, Kaduna, and other troubled states.

According to Daramola, the bandits were killed following intelligence report that high-profile armed bandits were gathering around Rafi and Doka villages in Mada district in Gusau Local Government Area of the state.

Daramola’s statement as quoted by Sun News read: “In response to reports that high-profile armed bandits were gathering around Rafi and Doka villages in Mada district in Gusau Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State, which is under the Area of Responsibility (AOR) of the 207 Quick Response Group (207 QRG), a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Special Forces (SF) team was dispatched to the area on April 16, 2019, to secure the two settlements and thwart the bandits’ plans.”

“Upon arrival at the location, the NAF SF Team encountered resistance in the form of heavy gunfire from the bandits.

“However, the brave SF personnel employed superior tactics to outlast the bandits, who were soon low on ammunition, before engaging and overpowering them. Two bandits were neutralized in the process while others fled with gunshot wounds.”

“Since then, the SF Team has been conducting aggressive patrols in the area, especially the fringes of the forest, to forestall any reprisal attack.

“The NAF, along with sister services and other security agencies, will sustain the operations to flush the bandits out of the northwest of the country.

In the same vein, The Delta state government has lauded the Nigerian Army for the professional comportment of its officers and men during the just concluded general elections.

Acting Delta state governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, who gave the commendation on Wednesday while hosting the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Yusuf Buratai, and other senior officers of the Nigerian Army who paid the state government a courtesy visit, also said the state would continue to partner with army to sustain peace and security in the state.

The COAS had visited the state to pay condolence visits to all stakeholders in the burial programme of former Chief of Army Staff and military governor of defunct Mid-West state, late Gen. David Ejoor.

According to the acting governor, the elections in Delta state, particularly, were peaceful and without much drama because of the discipline and professional outlook the men of the Nigerian Army assumed during the exercise, saying “we want to express satisfaction at the level of professionalism that your men exhibited during the last election. It was commendable”.
