Blood And Tears Everywhere As Boko Haram Launches Another Suicide Attack In Borno

A soldier and a vigilante were neutralised when about two female suicide detonated an explosive in Borno State, military sources stated on Friday.

The bombers blew themselves up on Thursday in a way to avoid arrest when they were stopped by military and militants outside the garrison town known as Monguno.

“We lost a soldier and a civilian vigilante in the explosion which also injured another soldier,” a military officer who did not want to be named, told AFP.

“Two female suicide bombers were involved in the incident,” he disclosed.

One of the bombers panicked when they were being questioned and detonated her explosives, killing her while her accomplice “took to the heels”, added a militia leader in the town.

“The soldiers and the vigilante pursued her and when she realised they were closing in on her she exploded, killing a soldier and a civilian JTF (militia),”said the militia, who didn’t want to be his name printed for fear of being sanctioned.

He said another soldier sustained injuries in the incident.

Monguno, located about 135 kilometres north of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state,and is home to a military base and camps for people who are displaced by the Boko Haram terrorist group.

The town which is located in the  Lake Chad area has been repeatedly attacked by the terrorists who have made several failed attempts to attack and overrun the military base.

He disclosed that another soldier was injured in the attack.

Suicide bombings is the trademark of the Boko Haram terrorist sect and the faction of the terrorist group loyal to Abubakar Shekau in targeting soft targets like mosques, markets, schools and displaced camps. Another faction affiliated to the notorious ISIS focus more on military targets including raids on bases. The Boko Haram insurgents group has killed more than 27,000 people and displaced 1.8 million others in the northeast region of Nigeria.

The attacks has spread to  Niger, Chad and Cameroon, who are neighboring countries which pave way for the establishment of a regional military force to combat the terrorist group.

It will be recalled that in a related development early this year  six Nigerian soldiers were killed and 14 injured when Boko Haram jihadists raided a village near the army chief’s family home, security and hospital sources said on Saturday.

 

 

The jihadists, on Thursday, attacked an army position overnight in Kamuya, a village in the northeastern state of Borno near the home of army chief of staff Tukur Yusuf Buratai’s mother, the sources said.

“We lost six soldiers in the fight and 14 others sustained various degrees of injuries,” an army officer said.

“The terrorists also suffered heavy losses,” the officer added without giving figures.

A doctor at the hospital located in Damaturu while confirming the attack disclosed that six dead bodies of military men were taken to the morgue. an anonymous military source also stated that four military vehicles were also seized by the jihadists while two others were destroyed.
