2023: Why We Do Not Plan On Transmitting Raw Election Figures – Yakubu
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has stated that as usual the commission will not transmit raw election figures on Saturday.
Speaking at a meeting with leaders of Foreign Election Observation Missions in Nigeria, Yakubu explained that Presiding Officers would rather, be required to use the Bimodal Voter Authentication System BVAS to photograph the result sheets of each polling unit and upload them on the INEC Result Viewing Portal IREV for Nigerians.
He explained that the reason the electoral commission would not be transmitting the raw results electronically is because raw figures are vulnerable to hacks.
Yakubu noted that the difference between Kenya’s 2015 election and Nigeria’s 2023 election is that raw figures would not be transferred for collation.
“After the process is completed at the polling unit, the image of the polling unit result will be taken by the BVAS and uploaded unto what we call the INEC Result Viewing Portal where citizens can see polling unit level results as the processes are completed at the polling unit level” He added.

Rivers APC Rep Seeking Reelection Sent To Prison Two Days To Poll
A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, has remanded the lawmaker representing Etche/Omuma federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Ephraim Nwuzi, to the Nigerian Correctional Centre in the state.
This followed a remand proceeding preferred against him by the Rivers State Police Command.
The police had accused the federal lawmaker, who is also the All Progressives Congress candidate for Etche-Omuma Federal Constituency in the February 25, 2023 election of treasonable felony, conspiracy, motion of communal crisis and inciting violence.
When the matter was mentioned in Court on Wednesday, counsel to the accused, Emenike Ebete, made an oral bail application. The bail application was however opposed by the prosecution and the Investigation Police Officers in charge of the matter, requesting that Hon Nwuzi be remanded to pave the way for proper investigation and arraignment.
Recall that the spokesperson of the state Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement said the Supervising Assistant Inspector General of Police for the elections in Rivers State, Abutu Yaro, had invited Hon. Nwuzi over an inciting video where he allegedly directed his supporters to attack some persons, including officials of INEC during the elections.
