The North Doesn’t Trust You, You Can’t Get Buhari’s Votes – Okechukwu Knocks Atiku
The Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu has ruled out any chance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar getting the bloc northern votes of President Muhammadu Buhari who is not on the ballot for the 2023 election.
According to Okechukwu, the voters in the north are sophisticated and can’t be moved by the stomach infrastructure that politicians throw around.
He added that Atiku does not command the kind of respect or followership that gave President Buhari bloc votes in the north when he was contesting elections.
The VON DG submitted that most northern voters can easily distinguish between the truth and political propaganda.
It would be recalled that a spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, Daniel Bwala, had said that the support shown to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate from the North has indicated that he would be inheriting President Muhammadu Buhari’s 12 million voters.
However, Okechukwu has ruled out any chance of Atiku inheriting Buhari’s northern votes as according to him, the north doesn’t trust the PDP candidate.
He said: “One has respect for Atiku Abubakar However, he can’t harvest Buhari’s 12 million Vote-Bank in the North.
“The North doesn’t trust him. He is not Mai-Gasikiya, Buhari’s hallmark.
“Historically, only the legendary Mallam Aminu Kano had Buhari’s political cult followership in the North.
“Majority of them are not stomach infrastructure propelled. They can easily discern the truth from propaganda.”

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Super Tucano fighter jets have killed 150 Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa Forest of Borno State. The terrorists were reportedly neutralised on wednesday the Mantari hideouts in Bama Local Council. A counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed in Maiduguri, yesterday, that the military airstrikes targeted terrorists while they were meeting in the forest.
A military source in Maiduguri also said that Abbah Tukur, a Khaid of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), was among the terrorists neutralised in the Mantari-Maimusari-Bakura axis in the local council. Makama said: “Bakura Jega has led some fighters on 40 motorcycles on the instructions of Amir Fiye, Ali Ngulde, to the Lake Chad of Kernoa.
“The instructions were to seek more support from the Boko Haram leader, Abou Oumaymah, to scale up its fighting capabilities to fight ISWAP terrorists in the region.” He added that the fighters were received by the leadership in Mantari, after they returned with weapons, motorcycles and rustled livestock. According to him, when the military struck the hideouts, no fewer than 150 terrorists were neutralised. The military source indicated that lack of medical treatment for various injuries led to the death of more terrorists in the forest.
“The terrorists that sustained burns and other injuries from the airstrikes are, however, treated in the open under the canopy of a tree,” he said, warning that the people should desist from visiting the treatment area, as the terrorists’ health conditions are terrible to bear.
