Tinubu will give Nigerians friendly leadership like Sani Abacha: Kashim Shettima

Kashim Shettima, the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said the country needs a leader with “a dose of hospitality” like the former military head of state, Sani Abacha.

Mr Shettima noted that only Bola Tinubu, among other presidential candidates, has Mr Abacha’s qualities. The running mate also reeled out other attributes of former Nigerian leader military leaders which he claims his principal possesses.

“We need a leader with a vision and sense of responsibility and commitment, and somebody who understands the national title of the nation of an Abdulsalami Abubakar, and in our systemic circumstances, we need a leader with a dose of the hospitality of a Sani Abacha,” Mr Shettima said on Thursday at the 96th anniversary of the Yoruba Tennis Club in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Mr Abacha was Nigeria’s military head of state from November 17, 1993 to June 8, 1998 before he suddenly died. Mr Abacha’s military junta assumed global notoriety for its brutal style and scant regard for human rights and massive crackdown on the media, civil rights groups, and pro-democracy campaigners.

Speaking further, Mr Shettima explained that the general political situation of the country needs the competencies of a detribalised and committed Nigerian like Mr Tinubu. He said that Mr Tinubu, who has continued to enjoy the support of past leaders of the country, would be pragmatic in his approach to ensuring that the country experiences growth and progress through unity if elected.

“We need a leader with the intellectual acumen, with the action to catapult this nation to a higher pedestrian. We need a leader who is not bound by regional or religious sentiment. “We need a leader that has established such records of excellence and commitment to good governance. There is no one, with all due respect, that fits this better than Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the APC vice-presidential candidate said.

JUST IN: “PDP may lose 2023 Presidential Election” – Bode George

Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has said the current crisis rocking the party might cause its defeat in the 2023 presidential election.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that George, who supports the call for the removal of Iyorchia Ayu as National Chairman of the party, spoke with reporters in Lagos recently.

“We should not allow any sentiment – ethnic or religious to divide us. Unfortunately, with what we are presently witnessing, our party may lose the next presidential election if we continue to disregard or fail to address the feeling and grievances of ‘alienation’ being presently experienced by the entire Southern population of this great country,” George said.

“If this issue is dismissed, we cannot expect votes from them.”

He added: “Until this party returns to the founding fathers’ principles of unity, with equity, fairness and justice being the pedestal for any political decision taken in this party; and ensuring broad-mindedness to accommodate the concerns of all zones in this country, PDP becomes vulnerable to disaster in the 2023 elections.”
