Embattled FKF President Nick Mwendwa has been arrested over alleged graft. This comes a day after being kicked out of office by Sports CS Amina Mohammed. Mwendwa was arrested from Nyayo stadium where Harambee Stars was training and taken to DCI headquarters for grilling.
Officials said the incident is part of ongoing probe into claims of graft at the body. Detectives handling the matter say they will also talk to other FKF officials. Mwendwa was picked up by police in two cars and was asked to call his lawyer.
On Thursday, Mwendwa rubbished the caretaker committee appointed by CS Amina to run football in the country. The firebrand FKF honcho vowed to fight any attempts to eject his five-year old administration from office. Even as he was chest-thumping, the walls were crumbling down on him as a contingent of police officers closed in and locked Kandanda House, headquarters of the beleaguered federation.
Mwendwa insisted he still remains the bonafide president of the local football governing body.
“We, the ousted FKF officials, shall remain in charge, and football will continue in this country under our leadership,” he said.
