Nigeria will remain one nation – Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says Nigeria will remain one indivisible nation despite its problems.

The VP said even with the security, economic, religious and ethnic challenges, the collective vision of a united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria abides.

He spoke on Sunday at the 61st Independence Anniversary service and the 45th-anniversary service of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja.

In attendance were Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, members of the National Assembly, Judiciary, and the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye; CAN President, Rev. Supo Ayokunle, among others was also present.

Osinbajo said Nigeria is now the most educated and most entrepreneurial nation in Africa.

The VP noted that 10 of 36 States have larger economies than at least 15 African countries.

“We have the most accomplished men and women, in the arts, the sciences, in sports, in technology and commerce.

“Our current trials cannot draw the curtains on our story because the vision is for an appointed time.

“This country is greater than the sum of its parts and the sum of its mistakes, and because the God we serve is greater than the sum of our collective hopes and imagination, our nation will surmount current travails and emerge in victory”, he stated.

BREAKING: Boko Haram attacks Yobe Town, Several residents Flee

Boko Haram terrorists have launched an attack on residents of Babbangida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa local government area of Yobe state, Northeastern Nigeria.

Babbangida, a town located 50 kilometres away from Dapchi where 110 students of the Government Girls Science Technical College were abducted in February 2018.

The insurgents are currently in a gun duel with the troops in the area.

It was gathered that residents in their numbers have since scampered into the bush for safety.

“Boko Haram terrorists are currently attacking Yobe town. They are currently attacking Babbangida, headquarters of Tarmuwa local government area in Yobe State. Residents are fleeing,” the source said.

This comes as the Army Public Relations Director, Brig. Gen. Onyeama Nwachukwu, revealed that ISWAP terrorist group has commenced a massive recruitment drive after thousands of Boko Haram insurgents ‘repented’ and surrendered to the military. The Director noted that the military would not relent in its fight against terrorism.

He, however, urged members of the public to be observant in their communities. The revelation comes two weeks after the State Security Service (SSS), also called the Department of State Services (DSS) asked security agencies in Kaduna to brace themselves for likely attacks.

It noted that leaders and foot soldiers of the Boko Haram terrorist sect have relocated to a forest in Southern Kaduna from Sambisa Forest.
