Nigerian governor’s aide, police officers, others arrested for vandalising railway tracks
The Special Adviser to the Governor of Nasarawa State on Infrastructure, Yusuf Musa, has been arrested for his alleged role in the vandalism of railway tracks.
This was announced by the Nasarawa State police commissioner, Bola Longe, while parading Mr Musa and other suspects at the Force Headquarters in Lafia on Thursday.
Mr Longe, in a press release obtained by PREMIUM TIMES, said the suspects, including police officers, were nabbed following the intelligence information received by the command.
According to him, the suspects have “turned the Nigerian railway tracks that traverse some major cities and villages in Nasarawa State en route to Benue state to gold mines where they vandalise and cart away rail tracks.”
“Consequently, the State Police command developed a strategic anti-vandalism template to arrest the tide of this unwholesome scenario.”
“It is gratifying to note however, that, this template paid off on 16/5/2021 at about 0130hrs and 24/5/2021 at about 0300hrs respectively when police operatives swooped on the vandals at their theatre of operation while vandalising and carting away railway tracks/slippers along Agyaragu Tofa in Lafia LGA and Angwan Alago of Kadarko district in Keana LGA.”
Mr Longe stated that Richard Joseph, an inspector of police; Mali Peter, a sergeant; Ibrahim Usman, an official of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps; and three others were arrested at the crime scenes.
He, however, said an extensive investigation into the case led to the arrest of Mr Musa and ten others.
Others arrested include Mohammed Isiaka, a former supervisory councillor on education, Nasarawa Eggon LGA; Marra Thai, a Chinese national and the Manager of Yong Xing Steel Company, Tunga Maje, FCT Abuja, and Samuel Shagbaor, a staff of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.

Anambra guber: APC’ll rob to win, I see bomb explosion – Primate Ayodele
The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has warned that the All Progressives Congress, APC, would not win the Anambra governorship election.
Primate Ayodele, however, said APC can only win the election if the party “robs the people of their rights.”
In a statement on Friday, the clergyman urged the APC to pick George Moghalu during its primaries.
He said: ‘’In APC, Except the party rigs and rob the poor people off their rights, I don’t see any APC candidate winning the election, though it will be tough it is between PDP, APGA, YPP.
“However for APC Primaries, George Moghalu should be given the ticket, only him can make the main election tough’’
Primate Ayodele also warned the state government to ensure adequate security.
The prophet said, “I foresee explosives during the election,” adding that after the primaries, “God will reveal the next governor of Anambra State to him.”
Recall that some weeks ago, Primate Ayodele named some aspirants who can make waves for parties in the Anambra State election if they get the ticket after the primaries.
Following up on his earlier disclosure, the prophet released more names of aspirants that could pull through.
‘In addition to what I said earlier for PDP, It is between Godwin Maduka, Tony Nwoye, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, and Obiora Okonkwo, any of these four aspirants can give PDP victory in the election’.
‘’In APGA, it is between Charles Soludo and Chukwuma Umojie but Soludo will be favoured at the end of the day during the primaries.
‘’In YPP, Andy Uba will clinch it’’, he added.
UCL FINAL: City face injury scare as Gundogan withdraws from training
Ilkay Gundogan withdrew before the end of Manchester City’s training session on the eve of their Champions League final clash with Chelsea in Porto. Gundogan, who is the Premier League champions’ top scorer in all competitions this term with 17 goals this term, appeared to be suffering from discomfort in his right thigh after a collision with captain Fernandinho. City’s practice match at Estadio do Dragao continued in the Germany international’s absence, with the players and manager Pep Guardiola retaining an overall relaxed demeanour – suggesting the nature of Gundogan’s knock, being impact rather than muscular, meant it was not a major cause for concern.
Gundogan is the only member of the City squad to have featured in a Champions League final when he scored from the penalty spot in Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich at Wembley in 2013. The 30-year-old has been instrumental in City regaining the Premier League and retaining the EFL Cup this season, although he was an unused substitute for last weekend’s 5-0 victory over Everton after being substituted following a blow to the knee in a 3-2 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion.
“I’m alright, I was a little bit cautious in that Brighton game,” he said when asked about his fitness earlier this week. “Because of the knock-on my knee I started to feel all the muscles around it a little bit and I didn’t want to pull anything. “I didn’t miss any training sessions, so I’m feeling good.” All other members of Guardiola’s first-team squad trained, with no fitness concerns mentioned by the manager at his pre-match news conference.
