Powerful, influential and wealthy are some of the words to describe one of the members of Lagos state National Road Union Transport Workers (NURTW), Mr. Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
The popular socialite is one of the allies of the National Leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And he has been cited at political rallies several times in Lagos and a few states in the Southwest geopolitical zone.
As the National Treasurer of NURTW in Lagos, he contested to become the chairman of the union in the commercial city but lost to a close rival, failing to succeed the outgoing chairman Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede.
He was defeated by Michael Odugunle, Agbede’s anointed candidate.
The perceived political rivalry between the incumbent governor of Lagos State Mr. Babjide Sanwo-Olu and his predecessor Mr Akinwumi Ambode may have played a major role, PM News reported.
The aforementioned two politicians are considered as political ‘godsons’ of Tinubu. But things reportedly fell apart between Ambode and Tinubu towards the end of his first term as he couldn’t get the endorsement of the Southwest political heavyweight.
However, the immediate past NURTW chairman, Agbede, is said to be loyal to Ambode while MC Oluomo is of Tinubu and the present ruling government.
It was also gathered that Agbede was instrumental in the emergence of Odugunle as the new chairman of the Lagos union. Agbede reportedly worked against Oluomo’s bid to succeed him.
Agbede and Oluomo have been at each other’s throats for a while over the NURTW chairmanship in Lagos, it was gathered.
In January 2018, MC Oluomo was stabbed by thugs suspected to be members of NURTW during a campaign rally of APC at Skypower Ground Ikeja, Lagos, as they forcefully gained entry into the campaign ground.
