Irate youths stormed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, taged a massive protest because of the step by the electoral umpire the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to include two more wards in Warri South Local Government
The angry protesters, who came under the auspices of the Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, claimed that INEC decided to add two wards into the existing 10 wards in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, INYC legal adviser, Mr. Shewor Edema stated that INEC cannot decidewhich court decision to obey. According to him, “The wards in Warri are 10 and not 12. INEC has no right to select which court decision to obey.I am also aware that they are collecting money from the voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVC.PVC is the power of the people to exercise their right, by doing so they are being disenfranchised.“We are not going to fold our hands, we are ready to fight with our last blood,” Otaru said. When contacted, the electoral officer, EO in Warri South, Mrs. Okah Grace declined comments on the matter, saying, “I cannot speak on the development.”
The Itsekiri National Youths Council, INYC, has warned that there would be serious trouble should the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, attempt to conduct the 2019 general election in Warri South Council Area of Delta State using the 12 Ward structure already declared illegal 15 years ago by a court of competent jurisdiction instead of the legally approved 10 Wards President of the INYC, Comrade Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, who made this declaration while briefing newsmen on Monday in Warri, said the Appeal Court sitting in Benin City, in Appeal No: CA/B/482m/2018 struck out INEC appeal for alleged abandonment of Appeal filled since 28 of October, 2003.
He said: “We have written several petitions and reminders in this regard to INEC to no avail. We went to court to secure a judgment against INEC even when they pretended they had given several directives in this regard.’’The INYC, therefore, called on INEC to conduct the election in 10 legal wards to avoid incurring the wrath of the people.
