Manchester United continued their poor form to the 2019/20 premier league season with a disappointing 1-0 defeat against fellow stragglers Newcastle United at Saint James Park.

Red Devils manager, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer made three changes with Diogo Dalot, Fred and Juan Mata all starting while Greenwood, Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong as Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial missed out completely via injury.

The home side made five changes after last week’s 5-0 demolition against Leicester City. Steve Bruce made five changes with DeAndre Yedlin, Ciaran Clark, Matty Longstaff, Jetro Willems and Allan Saint-Maximin but Isaac Hayden misses out after his red card against the Foxes.
First Half
Manchester United had 67% possession but had just two shots on target in the first 45minutes but Harry Maguire should have scored just before half-time when he found himself free inside the six-yard box.

The former Leicester City defender and most expensive defender in the world sent his header wide to the shock of Manchester United fans in the away stand.
Newcastle United went close before the United chance when the brother to Manchester United target Matty Longstaff hit a powerful right foot shot against the top of the crossbar with a brilliant strike from outside the penalty box. The half ended goalless.

Second Half
Manchester United came flying out of their block as they tried to take the lead but it left them vulnerable at the back with the Magpies going on a fast counter.
It was brilliant and paid off as Matthew Longstaff, on his Premier League debut, found the back of the net with a strike from the edge of the box to make it 1-0.

Manchester United threw everything at the home side but they held on for the vital three points.
The result leaves Manchester United 12th with just nine points while Newcastle United claim out of the relegation zone to 16th with eight points.
