Cristiano Ronaldo returns to action with Juventus on Saturday as the 2019/20 Serie A campaign kicks off. After a season of change for the champions, they are going up against a Parma side that can be dull of surprises in Maurizio Sarri’s first game in charge.
Although Parma avoided relegation last season, the hosts have room to improve following a mixed bag of results across their return to the top flight. They were solid in the early stages of last season, but they fell away later in the campaign.
They ended up just missing out on the relegation battle in the last couple of weeks of the season. Overall they managed to win just 10 times, with only one success in their last 11 matches.
They go into the Serie A opener with a terrible record at home behind them, following seven defeats and just five victories at this ground last term. With five of those losses coming against the top six, it would be hard to get a result against Ronaldo-led Juventus.
The champions have taken a hufe risk to improve their side, bringing in Maurizio Sarri to change their style. The Italian is well known for his approach to the game, which is vastly different to the style employed by Max Allegri. Juve are focused on improving their brand around the world, with style of play one area they felt behind in.
However, making that shift is a risk for the side who have strolled to every title in the last eight seasons. Juve weren’t as solid as the fans would have liked last season, having opened up the 2018/19 campaign by conceding in three of their first four matches.
They are always going to create chances and score goals with Cristiano Ronaldo featuring, while even under Allegri they scored in 92% of their league games last term. These two did share plenty of goals last season, with their two meetings bringing nine goals in total.
Juve finished last term with a five-game winless run, conceding in eight straight matches. Parma saw both teams score in five of their last six matches in the league so they’ll be confident of continuing their high scoring record against the champions.
Juventus Team News: Ramsey, De Ligt, and Rabiot could make their first competitive appearance for Juventus. Maurizio Sarri is set to miss the clash as he recuperates from Pneumonia. The 60-year-old Juventus boss also missed last weekend’s friendly against Triestina because of what was initially thought to be flu.
Betting Tips and Predictions:
With Juventus’ new style of play, they are expected to rip Parma to bits so betting on Ronaldo to score anytime is reasonable.
However, the Serie A champions are also likely to concede goals because of Parma’s brave attacking style. Both teams score is a viable option for the game. Juventus to win and both teams is the best option for higher returns.
