Arsenal Women confirmed the signing of 18-year old goalkeeper Fran Stenson from Manchester City today. Stenson started out at Birmingham City, making her debut in the WSL as a 16-year old. She joined Manchester City last summer and played in the Continental Tyres Cup in December, before joining Blackburn Rovers on loan for the second half of last season.
The 18-year-old has decided to join the Gunners, where she will start out as third choice goalkeeper behind Manu Zinsberger and Pauline Peyraud-Magnin. There is a chance that Stenson could go out on loan but, alongside, Roebuck, she is considered the future of the national team in goal.
Arsenal released an official statement in their website to announce the deal: “Fran Stenson has joined us from Manchester City on a long-term deal. The 18-year-old goalkeeper started her career at Birmingham City and made her professional debut in October 2017 during a 2–1 win over Everton in the FA WSL,” the Gunners official website stated
“She joined Manchester City in 2018, and made her debut for them in the FA WSL Cup against Aston Villa in December 2018.
“In February 2019, she joined Blackburn Rovers on loan in the FA Women’s National League North. An England international, she has represented her country at U15s, U16s and U17s level.”
Send your best wishes to Fran Stenson as she joins Arsenal from Manchester City…. Thanks
