Stephanie Frappert, made history by becoming the first woman to officiate a major men’s European match. Frappart who is a French football referee, has been on the FIFA International Referees List since 2009, and has refereed several high-profile matches.
The 35-year old arbitrator born in Val-d’Oise, France also refereed the women’s 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup final in France which the United States beat Netherlands 4-0 in July and has also taken charge of Ligue 1 matches since April.

Frappart officiated the game alongside Michelle O’Neill and Manuela Nicolosi who both acted as her assistant referees as Jurgen Klopp-led Liverpool Football Club lifted the UEFA Super Cup trophy following their 2-2 (5-4 on penalties) victory over 2018/19 UEFA Europa League winners Chelsea, at the Vodafone Park in Istanbul Turkey.
Goals from Oliver Giroud for Chelsea and Saido Mane for Liverpool in either half ensured the game got into extra time.
Mane scored for Liverpool again but a Jorginho equalizer from the spot meant the game was to be settled by the lottery of penalties. Liverpool would go on to win the penalty shootouts 5-4 as Tammy Abraham missed the only spot kick of ten played.

“I think gender is irrelevant. If the quality is there, and it is there, then it doesn’t really matter.”
