UEFA SUPER CUP: Frappart turn heads as Women officiate men’s European game

Stephanie Frappert, made history by becoming the first woman to officiate a major men’s European match. Frappart who is a French football referee, has been on the FIFA International Referees List since 2009, and has refereed several high-profile matches.
ImageThe 35-year old arbitrator born in Val-d’Oise, France also refereed the women’s 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup final in France which the United States beat Netherlands 4-0 in July and has also taken charge of Ligue 1 matches since April.

Frappart officiated the game alongside Michelle O’Neill and Manuela Nicolosi who both acted as her assistant referees as Jurgen Klopp-led Liverpool Football Club lifted the UEFA Super Cup trophy following their 2-2 (5-4 on penalties) victory over 2018/19 UEFA Europa League winners Chelsea, at the Vodafone Park in Istanbul Turkey.

ImageMane scored for Liverpool again but a Jorginho equalizer from the spot meant the game was to be settled by the lottery of penalties. Liverpool would go on to win the penalty shootouts 5-4 as Tammy Abraham missed the only spot kick of ten played.
