As the days to the transfer window closing in the Premier League edges closer, it is understood that Arsenal are closing in on reaching an agreement with Barcelona to sign Brazilian playmaker, Philippe Coutinho.
The Gunners are known to still be working hard to bring in new signings and fans of the club would be delighted to hear from French publication, L’Equipe, that Coutinho is set to make a return to the Premier League by signing a loan deal with Unai Emery’s side.
According to L’Equipe football writer Bilel Ghazi on Thursday, Arsenal are expected to pay a significant amount to bring in the former Liverpool star who joined Barcelona in January 2018 for a club-record £144 million.
It is understood that Arsenal would be paying a £25 million fee for the season-long loan to make Coutinho the fifth new player at the Emirates Stadium in this summer’s transfer market.
Arsenal have already signed Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano, William Saliba from St. Etienne, Daniel Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid and Nicolas Pepe for a club-record £72 million from French giants, LOSC Lille.
The Gunners are also said to be interested in bringing in a number of defenders, with Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig a priority target who has been valued at £70 million by the German Bundesliga side after reportedly rejecting a £55 million bid from Arsenal for the Frenchman.
Also on Arsenal’s radar before the Thursday night deadline are Celtic defender, Kieran Tierney, as well as Juventus star, Daniele Rugani, who is being considered on a season-long loan basis.
Do you think Coutinho would make a great impact at Arsenal should a deal eventually get struck with Barcelona for his loan move?
