Chelsea and Brazil defender, David Luiz has showered praises on England midfielder Mason Mount, claiming that he is the future of the club. The former Paris Saint-Germain centre back also hailed Mount’s attitude in training since returning to Chelsea on loan from Derby County.
Chelsea came from two goals down to draw 2-2 in a friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday with Ross Barkley scoring an 86th-minute penalty to give the Blues the winner.
Alassane Plea swept home after an error from Kepa Arrizabalaga before Jonas Hofmann made the most of some disorganised defending to give Gladbach a two-goal advantage at half-time. Yann Sommer made a string of excellent stops to keep Chelsea at bay but his goal was eventually breached by Tammy Abraham, who coolly slotted home from the penalty spot in the 59th minute.
Mount was one of the outstanding players on the pitch and his incredible performances for Chelsea during the pre-season games haven’t go unnoticed.
“Mason is my boy! I think we had the opportunity to meet each other years and years ago when he was just a little kid, 10 or 11 years old, and now to have the opportunity to play with him is great,” Luiz told the George Benson Football YouTube channel.
“I think he did great when he was at Derby. I’m so happy because I’m seeing a player with a great mentality, great talent. “Everybody knows he’s got the talent, everybody knows he’s got the goals, but I love to see the way he trains, the way he likes to listen and try to improve. I think he is going to be the future of Chelsea – the present and the future – and England for sure.”
The young midfielder will be hoping to continue his stunning performance so as to claim the starting lineup shirt this season.
