Arsenal head coach, Unai Emery, has dropped four stars from the first team squad which has travelled to France ahead of the pre-season friendly match against Ligue 1 outfit Angers later on Wednesday, July 31.
Star striker Alexandre Lacazette has been left behind in London after picking up a knock to his ankle during the Emirates Cup match against former club Olympique Lyon on Sunday.
Lacazette was replaced in the first half of the encounter at the Emirates Stadium by Reiss Nelson and was later seen leaving the Emirates Stadium with his ankle strapped in a protective gear.
Also left out of the squad to France are first choice goalkeeper Bernd Leno who is nursing a ligament injury, defender Carl Jenkinson as well as new signing Dani Ceballos despite making his debut in the Emirates Cup match on Sunday.
In place of the dropped players, Emery has included goalkeeper Matt Macey, young defender Dominic Thompson, and Anglo-Nigerian midfielder James Olayinka.
Lacazette on his part has not been replaced from the Emirates Cup squad, leaving Eddie Nketiah with the chance to enjoy more game time when Arsenal play Angers.
The Gunners will be looking to put up a better outing after relinquishing a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 against Lyon.
Angers on their part come up against Arsenal in their final pre-season preparation match before starting the 2019/20 league campaign next Saturday at home to Girondins Bordeaux.
Meanwhile, Arsenal would still have one more preparatory match against Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy match on Sunday at Camp Nou.
That game would bring an end to Arsenal’s pre-season as the Gunners would then travel to St. James’ Park to begin the 2019/20 Premier League campaign against Newcastle United next Sunday.
