Ronaldo’s Portugal, Pogba’s France fall while Messi’s Argentina rise on FIFA ranking

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal and Paul Pogba’s France have each dropped one place while Lionel Messi’s Argentina gained a place on the latest FIFA world ranking released on Thursday morning.

This comes despite Portugal winning the inaugural UEFA Nations League title a month ago with a 1-0 win over Netherlands early in June.

The reigning European champions now occupy sixth place on the new world ranking released on Thursday morning by FIFA, just a place and six points ahead of South American powerhouse, Uruguay.

However, Portugal remain the fourth best ranked team from Europe on the world ranking, behind Belgium who maintained top spot on the global listing, reigning world champions France as well as England.

While France remain Europe’s second highest ranked team, Les Bleus still fell to third place on the ranking as 2019 Copa America champions Brazil took second spot.

Meanwhile, Argentina broke into the world top 10 after moving up one spot to occupy 10th position.

The Albiceleste gained a place on the ranking after finishing in third place at the 2019 Copa America.
